Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) can negatively affect a person’s life and happiness. However, according to new research, there may be an answer to the devastating fatigue that accompanies this condition. What other symptoms do CFS patients suffer from?
CFS Symptoms
- Pain in the muscles
- Problems with concentration
- Memory issues
- General weakness
The fatigue that is felt with chronic fatigue is not something that a person can sleep off. It doesn’t matter how much rest a person gets—he or she still feels extreme exhaustion. In addition, any physical or mental activity exacerbates this condition. There is no known cause; however, it is now realized that head and neck trauma may be a contributing factor to not only CFS but other conditions such as epilepsy and depression. This is due to the fact that after trauma the body’s ability to regulate blood flow to and from the brain may be impeded.
One recent study took a close look at brain perfusion. This is a measurement of the amount of blood that is going to and leaving the brain. The result of the study revealed that people with CFS had reduced brain perfusion compared to 24 control patients. Their perfusion was noted as being significant and consistently reduced. This being the case, the question becomes, how can this be corrected and is that enough to help with chronic fatigue symptoms?
Alleviating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Through Chiropractic Care
A specific form of chiropractic called upper cervical chiropractic has seen much success in helping CFS patients find relief. Medical doctors are now seeing the benefits to this type of care. By examining the neck for misalignments and then correcting them, pressure is relieved from the brainstem. This also allows blood flow to become regulated and has been seen to alleviate the symptoms of chronic fatigue. It has been noted that sleep issues can also be helped by correcting upper cervical misalignments. It often only takes a couple of adjustments to see positive results.
